T he Foundation stone for this church was laid by the Duke of Cornwall in 1887. Since then the life and worship has continued unabated. It was founded to be a centre of the Catholic Faith as received by the Church of England. The first Parish Priest was Canon Wood who developed the life and worship considerably. After his death the Church took a while to recover and at the same time was dropped into a series of major changes that the dear old C of E was making at that time.

This was an uneasy period for all but in that time, under the guidance of Fr Peter Watts, the Church gained in confidence. This was a gain which was severely dented with the Ordination of Women Measure. A number of the congregation and their priest left, but as ever the ‘faithful few’ fought boldly and the life and worship of the Church has continued. Further changes with the introduction of Common Worship have been taken in its stride.

The building is often sought after for concerts by local and national choirs and orchestras due to its sound quality but essentially it is an active place of worship. Our church organ is a fine instrument, enhancing worship considerably. It is probably one of the best instruments in the County.

The whole of the Anglican Church in Cornwall faces major changes and re-assessment over the next few years - so please remember us all in your prayers.
